Unveiling the Upcycling Journey Of A Textile Artist in Singapore
Allow me to introduce myself; I am Roopa Sirisha, the founder of Scrapplique Galore, Being a woman entrepreneur I wear many hats, but the one closest to my heart is that of a textile waste artist in Singapore. Today, I invite you to join me on a journey - a journey of artistry, sustainability, and the profound impact we can have on our world.
The Awakening: Facing Textile Waste Head-On
My journey into the world of textile waste artistry began with a deep awakening. Like many of us, I was oblivious to the staggering amount of waste we generate through fast fashion. It was a revelation that would change the course of my life.
Amidst the isolation of a pandemic, In 2020, I found myself diving headfirst into researching textile waste. Books like "Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion" by Dana Thomas and "Worn Out: How Our Clothes Are Changing the Planet" by Alyssa Hardy became my guiding lights. They unveiled the dark side of fashion waste, one that had remained hidden beneath the glitz and glamour.
From Revelation to Action: Crafting a Sustainable Vision
The realization hit me hard and I felt like something had to change. I felt It was time to shift from awareness to action. Armed with determination, I ventured into the realm of upcycling. My journey began with making simple fashion accessories crafted from pre-loved clothes. While these creations held a charm of their own, I soon realized that the heart of the issue is still deeply embedded in the very essence of textiles.
The Art of Transformation: From Textile waste to Textile Art Treasures
And my path took a new turn - one that led to the creation of unconventional textile art pieces. This transformation was not just about aesthetics; it was about preserving the stories woven into every fabric, giving them a new life, and extending their existence to more than a century. After all, art is not meant to be discarded but to be cherished and passed down through generations.
Exploring the Unconventional: Textillusion, Infinite Dreams, Fusion Weaving, and More
In my three-year journey, I've explored the uncharted waters of textile waste artistry, birthing creations like Textillusion, Infinite Dreams, Fusion Weaving, and much more. These pieces are not just art; they are a testament to my commitment to a greener planet and greener Singapore.
A Pledge to Mother Earth
My journey as a textile waste artist is a pledge to Mother Earth, a vow to reduce textile waste and contribute to a greener and, more sustainable planet. Every creation is a step towards that goal, an ode to the artistry hidden within discarded fabrics, and a promise to future generations.
